Rainbow Party Ideas

There goes the April Fool day with not much hype, in retrospect  I think I should have done some mischief on my blog or at least the facebook page, but since I'm such a great person instead I'm letting my virtuous side rule by bringing you a party theme idea. Rainbows!

Who doesn't love rainbows? Except, perhaps the Grinch, but to be fair there are probably no rainbows on his side of grumpville.

Sleighing on.

This is is a theme that is not gender specific and has a lot of potential to be explored. Here are a few ideas you can work with.

Rainbow candies.

Teeny tiny rainbow cakes

These are just a few things you can do. You can even bring back streamers into style by making streamer chandeliers or streamer canopy. You see, when colour is not a limitation the possibilities are unlimited!

Oh, and don't forget to put gold at the end of the rainbow!

Paper Sparklers!

A very happy new year to all my avid readers/followers. I hope you had a dandy celebration on nye. I did!
Although, frankly speaking there is not much that can be done here, what with the abandoned trucks menacingly blocking roads, and rightly so, people here don;t know what control is.

Anyway, enough of that, off to the fun part I go. I know I should have put this earlier so you people could use them on new years eve, but my busy schedule prevented any such post. however, it's never too late, right?

:)

Today we will learn how to make paper sparklers that are children-safe and a lot of fun for them!

You will need:

• Festive straw
• Wooden skewers
• Vellum Paper in red, white and blue colors (we don't get any here so I used those L files instead)
• Scotch tape
• Scissors

Cut a piece of paper about 4 inches by 3 inches. Make very small fringe cuts almost all the way through as shown above, leaving about 1/2 at the top uncut.

alt
Starting at one end of the uncut section, carefully roll the paper up as tight as possible (you'll want that end to fit into the end of a straw so make sure it's a  super tight roll!)

alt

Stick it into the end of the straw. In all three I made with the dimensions I gave it fit perfectly, nice and tightly into the straw but you may need to snip off an inch or so at the end of your roll to make it work. You shouldn't need any tape but you can always add a small piece around the top where it meets the straw for added sturdiness.

alt
Festive straws look great but they aren't very sturdy. Here we cut down a skewer to about the same size (just not larger) of the straw and inserted it into the middle of the straw to add structure to the inside. Use a small piece of tape at the end to keep it inside.

Bend the paper a little bit to give the sparklers a little poofing up

Paint Swatch Chandelier for any occasion

{Step 1} You’ll need a whole bunch of paint swatches in your desired colours (seriously, emphasis on the whole bunch part). I picked a variety of blush, pink and red hues so I could get a fancy ombre look to my chandelier but I can only imagine how many different looks you could go for with your own chandelier. Using a scalloped paper punch you’ll need to punch about 40 -60 swatches into little medallions. Keep the medallions divided by colours in little saucers or cups like below.

(Don't fret if you don't have the fancy paper cutter. The alternative is cutting circles with a zigzag scissor. Take 2-3 papers together and start cutting!)

{Step 2} I bought my lamp shade (my chandelier base) from Lowes for about 5 bucks. Using an Exacto knife and super sharp metal scissors I carefully cut apart the fabric lamp shade, peeling away the pieces until the metal parts were as exposed as possible. When picking out a lamp shade I tried to pick out one where the bottom diameter is much smaller than the top. This will make your layers of paint swatch medallions hang better and thus look much better when the final product is done.

{Step 3} Lay out your paint medallions, coloured side down, in the desired order. Tape down a long piece of coloured thread along the middle of the backs of each medallion. Then using a piece of tape, cut down the center width wise, tape together the edges where one medallion meets the next. Without this final piece of tape, the medallions with rotate on their piece of thread, thus showing the bar codes, text and colour names usually located on the backs of the paint swatches. If that doesn’t bother you then this step isn’t necessary! Repeat this step until all of your chandelier strands are strung and taped together.

{Step 4} Flip your lamp shade upside down and fasten it somewhere where it can hang freely (I tied mine to the latch that opens and closes our air vent in our ceiling). Start stringing on your strands along the perimeter of the bottom of the chandelier until the entire metal base is covered. Then start stringing strands along the widest ‘top’ of your chandelier so that the lowest part of your strand hits the mid point of the bottom layer. Continue this all the way around until the entire chandelier is covered. Add a ribbon to the metal pieces (where the light bulb would pop in) and voila! You’re ready to hang this beauty!

Celebration cookies and bonbons.

Recently a fad of giving cupcakes instead of mithai for announcement and celebrations started making rounds. We saw cute boxes with even cuter cupcakes.

Everyone has started following this trend making laddoos  a talk of yesterday. You are outdated, or more eloquently put a dinosaur, if you give them no matter how pretty the box. But the question on everyone’s mind. everyone who wants to do things differently, is what next.

I bring to you What Next!
